Album Info: | The Auburn Valley Railroad is a 7.5 Inch gauge live steam railroad located at the Auburn Heights Mansion (part of Auburn Valley State Park). The AVRR was founded in 1960 by T. Clarence Marshall and his son, Thomas C. Marshall, Jr. and commenced operations on August 5, 1960, Clarence's 75th birthday. Following a quick rise in local popularity, the AVRR was leased by Historic Red Clay Valley, Inc. from 1961-1965 for fundraising. The railroad successfully raised over $15,000 for what would become the Wilmington & Western Railroad. The funds were used to help restore former Canadian National E10a class 2-6-0 no. 92 for tourist operations on the Baltimore & Ohio's Landenberg Branch out of Marshallton, Delaware. Today the railroad is owned by Friends of Auburn Heights, a non-profit volunteer group who is responsible for maintaining and operating the little railroad line. |
